AWARDS:

PRODUCER MEMBER OF THE YEAR: Hanson Aggregates

This award is given to a standout producing member company that participates and supports ARPA in every aspect of the Associations mission and strategic plan.  The recipient is honored with this award for going above and beyond with their involvement, contributions and dedication to the Association.       

Pat Kuehner, Hanson Aggregates

Hanson Aggregates is the recipient of the 2010 Producer Member of the Year award.  They have been honored with this award for going above and beyond with their continued dedication and support of ARPA committees and events.  They are also being honored for the participation and leadership of the following individuals; Pat Kuehner, Scott Dickson, Robert Barkley, Stephanie Colleran, Melinda Madrid, Dave Hilton and Jimmy Schroeder.  ARPA has received a tremendous amount of support from this dynamic group and through their combined efforts they have truly made a difference for the Association. 

 

ASSOCIATE MEMBER OF THE YEAR: Speedie and Associates

This award is given to an Associate member that is a prominent leader in the Association and supports all aspects of what ARPA does as an association.  The recipient is honored with this award for their extreme involvement and contributions to the Associations mission and strategic planning obligations. 

 

Don Cornelison, Speedie and Associates and Steve Trussell, ARPA

Speedie and Associates is the recipient of the 2010 Associate Member of the Year award. They have been most generous in their continued participation and support of ARPA committees and events not just this year, but every year.  They have provided countless man-hours, expertise and services to our membership that have included assistance with development of technical certification documents for concrete batch plants, asphalt plants and truck fleets as well as advocacy with state, county and local agencies.  They have been instrumental in effectuating positive change by way of beneficial materials specification development within Maricopa Association of Governments and Arizona Department of Transportation.  A representative from Speedie and Associates is always at critical meetings that require the “heavy lifting”.  The kind and thoughtful work of Don Cornelison and others, supports the mission of the Association through their commitment and fortitude.   

  

BEATING THE DRUM AWARD: Bill Mackey and Ben Dorris

This award honors an individual for their tremendous support of the Association above and beyond the call of duty.  The recipients of this award are industry professionals who spend a significant amount of time on politically challenging or highly techinical issues facing the Association.  they are noted for their technical expertise and diplomacy while navigating through an exceedingly tough review process to effectuate positive change.   

Bill Mackey, Granite Construction and Steve Trussell, ARPA

 Bill Mackey with Granite Construction is a recipient of the 2010 Beating the Drum award.  Bill is very dedicated to ARPA and has done an outstanding job supporting the industry through his participation.  He serves on the ARPA Board of Directors and is a founding member of the Southern ARPA Committee.  Bill gives service in leadership roles within ARPA and has taken the lead on critical issues impacting our industry in the Southern part of Arizona.  His support has been invaluable to the strength and accomplishments of the Southern ARPA Committee.  He has graciously facilitated the use of Granite’s training facility to allow for Southern ARPA business and special meetings or events to occur.  Bill also works closely with PAG, TUCA and AGC and keeps ARPA informed of critical developments and initiatives.  Additionally, he works diligently with ADOT and Pima County on beneficial specification changes.  He is always available to the Association as a resource and has given much appreciated guidance regarding industry issues.     

Ben Dorris, Gila River Sand and Gravel and Steve Trussell, ARPA

Ben Dorris from Gila River Sand and Gravel is a recipient of the 2010 Beating the Drum award.  Ben is very active in ARPA and has done a great deal to help support our efforts by providing invaluable input on critical issue.  He participates in the Community Relations, Environment and Safety/Transportation Committees at ARPA, is former chairman of each of these committees and engages in vital subcommittee work on projects that help keep our industry viable.  Ben is also actively involved with multiple agencies on ARPA’s behalf and has been one who industry members call upon for guidance on regulatory and mining issues.  Those who sit on the committees and subcommittees with Ben, would agree that he has more than earned this recognition.  He loves the rock products industry, he is extremely competent and a friend to many. 

 

ARPA PERSON OF THE YEAR: Representative Russ Jones

Representative Russ Jones and Steve Trussell, ARPA

Representative Russ Jones was the recipient of the ARPA Person of the Year award.  Representative Jones was instrumental in helping pass the Mining Omnibus and Regulatory Reform Bills. He invited ARPA, among several other stakeholder groups to participate in a process that ultimately ended up as one of the most significant bills our industry has seen in many years.  Representative Jones chaired the Mining Ad Hoc Study Committee conducting countless subcommittee meetings and stood before the House and Senate to defend this bill and promote the rock products industry.  Additionaly, he rallied support of multiple agencies to resolve challenges and educted our members at the recent ARPA critical issues conference.  Representative Jones has worked diligently to encourage his colleagues to support solutions to our challenges including House Bill 2617.  When things were looking grim come vote time on the floor he stood up and quickly acted to rally other members to support the bill.  As an Association, we are grateful to Representative Russ Jones for making a notable effort to understand our industry and spend so much time on our behalf when so many things compete for his attention. 

 

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD: Richard “Dick” Hrubes

Dick Hrubes, Arizona Materials and Steve Trussell, ARPA

Dick Hrubes, Arizona Materials, served on the ARPA Board of Directors from 1992-97 before coming back to serve as a returning Board member, Executive Board member and eventually Chairman.  He has spent countless hours assisting every one of ARPA’s committees as well as making himself available to addressing administrative projects. 

Dick is dedicated and has served the Association graciously.  The membership and staff are proud of what we have accomplished under his leadership.  ARPA Director, Steve Trussell commented,”Dick is thoughtful regarding issues pertaining to the industry, dedicated and concientous.  He is not afraid to tell you what’s on his mind and that’s a great thing.  He is easily put in as many hours with ARPA as he does with Arizona Materials.”  Thank you for your service to the Arizona Rock Products Association.
